AGRO 2490 is an electrolytically generated source of stabilized ionic silver, copper and chitosan that can serve as a basis for a wide range of products. AGRO 2490 kills microorganisms by two modes of action. First, the silver and copper ions deactivate structural and metabolic membrane proteins leading to microbial death. Secondly, microbes view AGRO 2490 as a food source and allow the silver and copper ions to enter the microbe cell. Once inside the cell the silver and copper ions denature the DNA which halts the microbes’ ability to replicate and effectively kills the Microbe. AGRO 2490 provides a broad spectrum antimicrobial activity and is effective against bacteria, fungi and pathogenic microorganisms. Its fast killing activity makes AGRO 2490 an effective antimicrobial for lots of products.

Review of the available toxicity data on AGRO 2490 indicates that the technology is considered non-toxic by OECD Acute Oral Toxicity Testing, Non-caustic by OECD Acute Dermal and Eye Toxicity testing. As such AGRO 2490 has been given a Category IV rating as a product that does not require precautionary or warning signals on its label. AGRO 2490 claims for disinfection range from 15- seconds for some vegetative bacteria, 1-minute- for antibiotic resistant organisms and 3-5-minutes for virucidal and fungicidal efficacy when it is diluted and used as suggested.
